later that day, we were transported back to our secondary school days of banner-painting; except this time, it was for the official (homemade) trade school singapore flag.

we can’t wait to hoist it!

on a side note, classes are filling up fast at our website. have you booked your seat?

what are the courses available?

hey!

the class schedule has not firmed up yet as we’re still waiting for potential teachers to submit their class proposals. for the latest updates, simply ‘like’ our facebook page - we’ll let you guys know when the classes have been added.

alternatively, you can keep checking our official site for updates. how fast classes are published depends on the number of class proposals we receive from the community.

thanks!

profile 02 ng xin nie, volunteer designer

image

in a couple of days, we will be launching our official site! xinnie and weiyan (one of our organizing co-founders) collaborated on the conceptualization (and actualization) of the graphics you’ll soon be seeing. here’s more about this extremely talented designer.

please introduce yourself to our tradeschoolers

right now i’m cutting my teeth as an industrial designer and occasional graphic designer. i’ve got a portfolio online at www.cargocollective.com/xinnie, and my instagram username is doublechinup. i enjoy my daily walk with God, family+friends and carbohydrates.i don’t enjoy, or rather don’t understand folks who operate without integrity and compassion/ the prospect of being cornered/ paying for bad service.

four things that you use every day

for stirring up ideas: handy enamel mug + earl grey

for measuring the milli of a millimetre: vernier calipers

image

for making stuff: just one of the many drawers of hardware tools

image

for a breathe of fresh air: the patio + planters

profile 01 ng yiqin, our official 'eye'

hey tradeschoolers! we’re very excited to be rolling out a monthlong series of profiles on the people who have helped us make trade school singapore possible.

image

first up: our official ‘eye’, ng yiqin, who’s an extremely talented photographer and filmmaker. this super-chill and deceptively smart ‘eye’ (she’s intelligent but not obnoxious) is also an old friend from school. if you spot her at trade school classes or our official launch party (happening 26 may, so mark your calendars), say hi!

please introduce yourself to our tradeschoolers

i am interested in using the camera to capture the relationship between the artist and her subject. this relationship reveals many interesting questions that i hope to explore - is the filmmaker conscious of her ability to manipulate? is the camera merely documenting? through photography, i examine how i relate to my subject and the role that my camera plays. my work explores how subjectivity is used to frame and to exclude. the camera is also my pen; it helps me converse and engage with the world around me.

find yiqin on vimeo, wordpress, and flickr. she also has a really cool website coming up - stay tuned for that!
